GENERAL
Q: What is a cottage food bakery?
A: Cakesplosionz Bakery is a WA licensed and insured LLC company with valid WA state food workers cards and all required state and local permits and business licenses. CFL# 1922
In 2011, the Washington State Legislature passed a Cottage Food Law (RCW 69.22.030) that makes
it possible for farmers and food businesses to sell products made in an inspected home kitchen instead of in a commercial kitchen. The Cottage Food Permit offers a way for small-scale, home-based food entrepreneurs to make and sell certain processed and prepared foods. To qualify, foods must be considered “low risk” and can only be sold directly to the end consumer at places such as farmers markets, farm stands, seasonal events (such as harvest festivals), and through CSAs.

Q: How do I place a custom order?
A: Contact us to discuss your project. We will provide an order form to clarify all details, delivery dates, and pricing. Once signed by both parties, this will serve as a formal contract.
Q: How much advance notice do you need?
A: This can depend on several factors, but we usually require at least 48 hours to secure a place on our schedule. Contact us to discuss and we can see what we can do to make your event spectacular!
Events like weddings with large cakes or many cupcakes require at least two weeks in advance. The more notice you can provide, the better.
Q: What if I have to cancel my order?
A: Due to the nature of our products being fully customizable and freshly made, and that scheduled orders block out the ability for us to take other orders, there are absolutely no cancellations, changes, or refunds within seven (7) days before the pickup/delivery date. We understand that circumstances can be beyond your control, and we are happy to appropriately package your order for you to take home and freeze for a later date.
Orders (excluding wedding cakes) canceled eight (8) days or more before the pickup/delivery date may be canceled for a 75% refund, but the paid deposits are non-refundable.
Orders (including wedding cakes) canceled fourteen (14) days or more before the pickup/delivery date may be canceled, but the paid deposits are non-refundable.
Q: What if I have food allergies?
A: We take food allergies very seriously, and we know how important it is to avoid cross-contamination.
Please, please, please always declare food allergies at the time of order.
Before we bake, all kitchen surfaces are scrubbed, washed, and sanitized to avoid food allergen cross-contamination, and all ingredients are noted on our product labels.
HOWEVER, all major food allergens outlined by the FDA in the FALCPA of 2025 (dairy, egg, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, sesame, and soy) + sesame ARE present in our kitchen. Despite thorough cleaning and disinfecting, we cannot guarantee that there will not be traces of allergens in any of our products for those with medical issues. Thus, we are not a certified allergen-free facility and make no claims to be so.
Q: Do you make gluten-free options?
A: While we are not a certified gluten-free facility and don’t make claims of gluten-free products, we do offer alternative non-wheat flour (a mostly rice and potato flour mix) for many of our products. Contact us for questions regarding your flavor wishes.
Please note: We serve non-wheat flour products as an alternate choice, NOT for those with true allergies such as celiac. Our equipment and surfaces all come into contact at times with wheat/gluten products. Despite thorough cleaning and disinfecting, we cannot guarantee that there will not be traces of gluten in any of our products for those with medical issues.
Q: Can you include movie characters or themes?
A: We can use any original idea, character, or character in the public domain on your cakes. We can also use thematic elements of a movie, franchise, or character to give your cake a specific look or feel. However, we cannot use copyrighted works for our cake designs unless we secure a license to do so (which takes time and money and usually doesn’t work out).
If you want a specific character cake or design, we can assist with providing a themed cake that has elements of the wanted character, colors, or theme, and you can add your own character figures or cutouts after delivery.
Q. Why are your prices higher than the grocery store?
A. You pay for quality. Our baked goods are made from scratch, using fresh ingredients like real butter, cream, and local eggs. We do not use preservatives or fillers in our ingredients as they do in most baked goods at the grocery store to increase shelf-life.
With that in mind, our baked goods do not last as long as grocery stores and are best enjoyed within a few days or kept in the refrigerator to extend “shelf” life.
What is the difference between layers and tiers?
Here’s a great infographic that explains the difference between cake tiers and layers.

Q: Can you copy my inspiration photo?
A: While we take your inspiration photos as inspiration, we understand we may exercise creative discretion when designing cakes and cupcakes based on the ideas and images you provided. We cannot use copyrighted works or identically replicate another baker’s design as that was someone else’s creative work.
